Zombie Panic!
Zombie Panic is a cooperative survival horror Half-Life Modification that pits a group of survivors up against the walking dead. Your goal is to complete a number of objectives to reach safety or take out the remaining zombies still lingering in the area. But those who were once your friends after death become the very same creatures you’re trying to escape. Zombie Panic is the first every Online cooperative zombie survival game and with player controlled zombies no one game is ever the same.
I want to like Zombie Panic. I really do. Unfortunately it’s a great idea poorly executed. Game balance is so lopsided that the zombies win every time. Frustrating glitches (like getting stuck on doors, objects, or other players) are incredibly common. Weapons are scarce, hard to see, and hard to pick up.
What’s even more troubling is that this is one of the five mods Valve is showcasing on Steam, which suggests it’s an example of the best the mod community has to offer. I really hope that’s not the case.
Quarter to Three
I stumbled across Quarter to Three today and I’m hooked. Written by Tom Chick, Quarter to Three features some of the smartest video game critisim I’ve ever read. It’s arguably better (but not as funny) than Zero Punctuation.
Driving Drunk in Mario Kart
It’s the question that has gone unanswered since Jesus first debated it with Abraham: how much does drinking actually impair your driving skills? Now is the time to answer it, through the most accurate of measurements: Wii Mario Kart!
Certainly not the most rigorous experiment ever, but it does go a long way towards explaining the popularity of Mario Kart at parties.

WoW and Children
Some people are having problems dealing with the logistics of being a parent while playing World of Warcraft:
I’ll be starting my raids with them this week actually. The problem? We have two small children who need to eat dinner and raids start at 5pm. Ack! How are we going to make dinner?! There are no problems with the kids running around playing and such while we raid. They’re already used to that, they play in the computer room and we can get them things that they need (you know, cups of juice, snacks, what have you) when we have breaks. Before it was easy because if I was running an instance and in the middle of combat my husband might be in a a space between pulls where he could safely go afk for 30 seconds you know. But now we’ll be on the same schedule essentially.
I worry about the world. I really do.
Don’t Forget About The Needs Of Gamers
Real Gamers Need Starship La-Z-Boy Cockpit Chairs
When you’re in a dogfight with alien invaders in deep space, you need one thing to keep humanity’s hopes alive: absolute comfort! This chair has six layers of “somna-foam” cushioning to prevent pressure sores and hemorrhoids during your 12-hour gaming sessions.
While other gamers are shifting their weight in their seats or even getting up to move their legs once in a while, you’ll be able to concentrate all your energy into your fingers. It also has six “Extreme Snack Compartments,” a three-gallon soft-drink chamber with built in “Liquid Delivery Conduit,” a waste-disposal system I’d rather not talk about, and a built-in defibrillator.
Apparently I am not a real gamer, I don’t want a La-Z-Boy…
Fallout 3 Teaser
Here’s the teaser trailer for Fallout 3. It’s an in-engine trailer, too, meaning these are (hopefully) the graphics we’ll see while playing the game. Awesome.
Eidos and Valve, sitting in a tree
There was a time when I held disdain towards Steam but that was pretty short lived. Ever since I bought my first game through steam (which was Day of Defeat: Source) I’ve freaking loved it. SO easy, so convenient. And now I can get Eidos games through it too!
This first agreement includes complete franchise sets of classics such as Tomb Raider, Commandos, and many of the Hitman titles. In addition, Eidos is bringing some of this year’s most highly anticipated releases to Steam, including Tomb Raider: Anniversary, Championship Manager 2007, and more.
Arriving today, the first wave of Eidos titles available to Steam gamers around the world includes many of the Hitman titles, Battlestations: Midway, Just Cause, and the entire Commandos series. Pricing information is available at Steamgames.com, and news of additional Eidos games heading to Steam will be announced in the coming weeks.
My personal favourite thing about Steam recently has been that I can get old games I missed when they were new for cheap, and I don’t even have to get off my lazy butt and root through a discount bin to do it.
Good stuff!
