Matched Memory in a Mac Pro
Last week, Macintouch published an excellent article that looked at, among other things, the Mac Pro’s memory performance. In particular, they examined the performance boost you can expect to get from switching from unpaired to paired memory modules:
Memory read performance increased 10% in Geekbench – a pretty good improvement, but the real speed boost came in memory writes. Ranging from 16% to 99% faster (double the speed!), these test results really boosted the overall Geekbench score. The upgraded Mac Pro fared especially well in multi-threaded tests, although even single-threaded tests did very well, ranging from 16% to 33% faster than Apple’s stock 1GB configuration.
The article does use other benchmarks, too, not just our most favourite benchmark ever.
