Updated PowerMacs
Apple has announced updated PowerMacs today, which feature dual 64-bit PowerPC G5 processors (ranging in speed from 1.8GHz to 2.5GHz) across all models.
The base model features dual 1.8GHz PowerPC G5 processors, a 900MHz frontside bus, 256MB DDR400 SDRAM, a 80GB Serial ATA hard drive, three PCI slots, and an nVidia GeForce FX 5200 with 64MB DDR video memory.
The middle model features dual 2.0GHz PowerPC G5 processors, a 1GHz frontside bus, 512MB DDR400 SDRAM, a 160GB Serial ATA hard drive, three PCI-X slots, and an nVidia GeForce FX 5200 with 64MB DDR video memory.
The top model features dual 2.5GHz PowerPC G5 processors, a 1.25GHz frontside bus, 512MB DDR400 SDRAM, a 160GB Serial ATA hard drive, three PCI-X slots, and ATI Radeon 9600 XT with 128MB DDR video memory. The dual 2.5GHz PowerMac also features liquid cooling, an interesting way to deal with the heat produced by the 2.5GHz PowerPC G5s.
All of the updated PowerMacs include an 8x SuperDrive, Gigabit Ethernet, FireWire 400 and 800 ports, USB 2.0 ports, optical digital audio input and output, and built-in support for Airport Extreme and Bluetooth.
The dual 1.8GHz and dual 2.0GHz PowerMac are available now for 1999USD and 2499USD, and the 2.5GHz PowerMacs will be available in July for 2999USD.
